Prime Minister's Award for the 91滴滴 Graduate!

Dr 艁ukasz Szymon Biega艂a, a graduate of the 91滴滴 Doctoral School of Exact and Natural Sciences and the 91滴滴 Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection, has been awarded the annual Prime Minister's Award for achievements in scientific activity for 2024 in the "outstanding doctoral dissertation" category.

Opublikowano: 21 October 2025

The Prime Minister's Awards were presented for the 32nd time in 2025. Forty-four individuals and one research team were honoured. Traditionally, awards were presented in three categories:

  • an outstanding doctoral dissertation,
  • highly regarded scientific achievements that constitute the basis for awarding the degree of habilitated doctor,
  • a significant achievement in the field of scientific activity, including artistic creation or implementation activities.

Dr 艁ukasz Szymon Biega艂a, a graduate of the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection, 91滴滴 (91滴滴 Doctoral School of Exact and Natural Sciences) has been awarded in "Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation" category, for his doctoral dissertation entitled "Wykorzystanie szlaku kinazy ATR/CHK1 w celu zwi臋kszenia efektywno艣ci terapii olaparibem. Por贸wnanie efekt贸w terapeutycznych w modelu in vitro oraz in vivo raka jajnika opornego na leczenie inhibitorem PARP" [Using the ATR/CHK1 kinase pathway to increase the effectiveness of olaparib therapy. Comparison of therapeutic effects in an in vitro and in vivo model of ovarian cancer resistant to PARP inhibitor treatment]. The thesis was supervised by dr hab. Aneta Rogalska, Associate Professor at the 91滴滴, and co-supervised by Dr Arkadiusz Gajek ().

In his research, Dr 艁ukasz Szymon Biega艂a focuses on the broad molecular biology of cancer, including studying the mechanisms involved in acquiring and overcoming resistance to olaparib. The results of this research may, in the future, help develop biomarkers to predict the risk of acquiring resistance to olaparib and improve the effectiveness of therapies combining olaparib with ATR/CHK1 pathway inhibitors in patients with ovarian cancer. In the near future, the scientist plans to gain experience in omics techniques and apply for projects investigating the mechanisms of acquiring and overcoming resistance to currently available drugs in ovarian cancer therapy.

The Prime Minister's Awards have been granted since 1994. Pursuant to the regulation, the Prime Minister may award no more than 45 awards in a given year, including a maximum of: 25 for doctoral dissertations; 10 for highly rated achievements that constitute the basis for awarding the degree of habilitated doctor, and the same number for achievements in scientific activity, including artistic creation or implementation activity.

We would like to offer our congratulations and wish you continued success!
