
EC-GaC operates in collaboration with the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and is an advisory body to the World Health Organization (WHO).
The key elements of the European Commission's initiative on stomach cancer are the development of European guidelines and a European quality assurance (QA) system.
The main tasks of the EC-GaC Working Group will include:
- Developing guidelines for population-based H. pylori infection screening and treatment programmes, including ensuring antibiotic surveillance;
- Providing quality assurance in primary prevention of gastric cancer;
- Promoting the use of the European Guidelines for Gastric Cancer in the group's member countries;
- Supporting the IARC in disseminating research results;
- Supporting the implementation of the European Guidelines for Gastric Cancer;
- Participating in the work of thematic groups;
- Supporting the IARC in conducting research that underpins the EC-GaC's mandate;
- Providing input for scientific publications.
