Prof. Jaros艂aw Dastych, PhD, Habil. is a scientist focused on translating research discoveries into the development of new technologies. He is one of the pioneers in the development of modern bacteriophage technology. Prof. Dastych graduated in Biology from the University of 艁贸d藕. After earning his PhD in Medical Biology in 1991 at the Medical University of 艁贸d藕, he pursued his scientific career at leading research institutions in Poland and the United States, including the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw, and the Institute of Medical Biology, Polish Academy of Sciences, in 艁贸d藕.
Prof. Dastych is the Founder and CEO of Proteon Pharmaceuticals S.A., a leading biotechnology company and global leader in the application of bacteriophage technology in animal health. In 2024, he became President of PhageEU, a European coalition promoting the adoption of innovative bacteriophage-based technologies for industry, agriculture, and medicine in Europe.
Since 2025, Prof. Dastych has served as Director of the Institute of Medical Biology at the Polish Academy of Sciences. His research interests include immunology, toxicology, molecular biology, and the development of new forms of bacteriotherapy. His scientific contributions include over 70 articles in prestigious journals and co-authorship of 13 patents in biotechnology.
