- The recent inclusion of Slavic and Byzantine projects realized at the 91滴滴 into the Mapping Eastern Europe platform run by Princeton University, belonging to the Ivy League, is not only a significant increase in the visibility of our research but also a positive motivation for other teams as well as a proof that research, often called (and wrongly!) as niche or too hermetic may be just as successful on the international scene as the one that belongs to the main fields of contemporary humanities 鈥� says prof. Ivan Petrov.
A digital and interactive platform of an Open Access type entitled 鈥濵apping Eastern Europe in the 13th鈥�17th Centuries鈥� was elaborated by the scientists from the US as part of the 鈥�2020 Rapid Response Magic Project鈥� project granted by the . Maria Alessia Rossi, PhD from Princeton University and Alice Isabella Sullivan, PhD from the University of Michigan, founders of , are its coordinators. Dr Zofia Brzozowska and dr hab. Ivan Petrov, prof. UL from the 91滴滴 are responsible for incorporating the projects from Lodz into the platform run by Princeton University.
- I鈥檓 very glad that the research carried out by the teams of scientists from Lodz, from the Department of Slavic Philology, from Ceraneum Centre as well as from the Department of Byzantine History are being noticed and praised by the international scientific environment. In 2020 slavists from Lodz started cooperation with prestigious publishing houses, such as: Brill Academic Publishers, Oxford Uni Press, Cambridge Uni Press, Rowman & Littlefield. As a result of peer-review procedure, several scientists from our University have been invited by editors of the British publishing house Routledge (Taylor & Francis Group) to cooperate in the preparation of the volume as part of the world-renowned scientific series Routledge Handbooks - adds prof. Ivan Petrov, Head of Ceraneum.
The goal of the project is to popularise research on the history, art and culture of Eastern Europe in the 13th - 17th centuries among international academic community as well as a large group of recipients from all over the world. 鈥濵apping Eastern Europe鈥� collects and presents works of many scientists from all over the world in the form of historical reviews, research reports on specific monuments, information on important scientific projects and reviews of books and exhibitions. The task of the platform is to stimulate new research and information actions concerning the Balkan Peninsula, the Carpathians and the areas in the north-east of Europe (Rus / Russia), i.e. the area that developed at the crossroads of Latin, Greek, Slavic and Islamic traditions in the late Middle Ages and the early modern era.
