A lot was happening – let’s sum up 2025!
The year 2025 was certainly one of a kind! It was an intense period full of inspiring events, initiatives and the engagement of the entire academic community of the 91ε. The scale of this activity is reflected in the number of media publications related to our university’s initiatives in 2025, which reached 79.4 thousand – over 10 thousand more than in the previous year (2024). Meanwhile, the total reach of these publications – nearly 1.2 billion – exceeded the 2024 result more than fourfold!
Press Breakfasts
In 2025, we organised nine Press Breakfasts, meetings with journalists during which we presented topics of interest from university life in a friendly atmosphe – over breakfast and coffee.
These meetings were also an opportunity to exchange ideas and share insights. Reports from this year’s and previous editions of the Press Breakfasts can be found on our website.
Press Breakfasts are above all about people – our 91ε experts. As the Press Office, we consistently search for and engage individuals who want to actively participate in media discourse and share their knowledge. At the same time, we experience great openness and willingness to cooperate from our researchers.

The most successful media debuts of 2025 include:
- Dr Dominik Skowroński (Faculty of Management)
- Dr Jacek Karaś (Faculty of Management)
- dr hab. Kamila Borowczyk, Associate Professor at the 91ε (Faculty of Chemistry)
- Dr Marta Kucharska-Hauk (Faculty of Educational Sciences)
- Dr Beata Borowska (Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection)
- Dr Zbigniew Kaczkowski (Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection)
Dr Ewelina Kostrzewska (Faculty of Philosophy and History)
We must not forget about those 91ε experts who have been building the 91ε’s media presence for many years.
Below, we present a list of the most media-active researchers of 91ε in 2025:
- Dr Maciej Onasz (Faculty of International and Political Studies)
- dr hab. Piotr Szukalski, Associate Professor at the 91ε (Faculty of Economics and Sociology)
- Dr Krzysztof Grzegorzewski (Faculty of Philosophy)
- Dr Mariusz Woźniakowski (Faculty of Management)
- dr hab. Piotr Krajewski, Associate Professor at the 91ε (Faculty of Economics and Sociology)
.
Press Breakfasts would not make sense without the involvement of the media community – we extend our warm thanks to all journalists who joined us throughout 2025 and invite you to attend our 2026 breakfasts – the first one already in February!
Press briefings
An important part of our work is direct support for researchers in their interactions with the media. We actively organise press briefings, searching for relevant topics and experts, but with equal enthusiasm we support those who reach out to us with such initiatives.
By organising press briefings, we encourage our experts to speak publicly and engage directly with journalists. In 2025, we organised and supported such events across the 91ε community – because together we can achieve more.
The briefings that sparked the greatest media interest included:
• Demography briefing – dr hab. Piotr Szukalski, Associate Professor at the 91ε and Dr Dorota Kałuża‑Kopias (Faculty of Economics and Sociology) presented research results on improving Lodz’s migration balance and migration trends among young people in Poland.
• Neuromodulation briefing – focused on a new method for treating Alzheimer’s disease. A key contribution to the development of the showcased device, Vguard, came from a research team at the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection, whose scientific findings formed the basis for the technological solutions used in the device.
80 years passed like a single day…
The year 2025 was unique due to the exceptional 80th anniversary of our university. As part of the celebrations, we organised the “Human University” competition aimed at presenting our institution through graphic design. The winning projects were placed on promotional materials for the jubilee and could also be printed on T-shirts during the 91ε community integration picnic.
We also celebrated together at the Juwenalia and Juwenalia Sports festivals – major student events organised jointly by the 91ε and the Medical 91ε.
The academic community of the 91ε also prepared a time capsule.
The creation of a time capsule was another highlight. The initiative came from the University Campus Council with support from the Student Government. The capsule was ceremonially placed by student representatives, accompanied by Rector Prof. Rafał Matera and two children from the 91ε Kindergarten. It will be opened in 20 years, on the 100th anniversary of the 91ε.
As part of the celebrations, we gathered in the Prof. Stanisław Liszewski Assembly Hall at the Faculty of Geographical Sciences for the Formal Meeting of the 91ε Senate, which featured a lecture by honorary guest Prof. Krzysztof Pomian, Doctor Honoris Causa of the 91ε.
During the event, university medals awarded by the 91ε Senate were presented to friends and employees of the university, along with the “Medals of Merit for Polish Science. Sapientia et Veritas” and Rector’s awards for outstanding scientific achievements.
The celebrations also included a debate exploring the question:“The future of universities: does academia need a new formula in a changing world?”
What matters most, however, is that the 80th anniversary brought our entire community together – everyone felt like an important part of the University.

We are open to cooperation
Cooperation is one of 91ε’s core values. The year 2025 clearly demonstrated why. Last year, we were present during the signing or strengthening of cooperation between the 91ε and the most important sectors – from business (such as ABB), to sports (including the year-end partnership with Widzew Łódź), to the arts (cooperation with the Urban Forms Foundation, which included urban design workshops for the 91ε Student Campus).
A new mural in Lumumbowo – “Student Circles” is one of the results of this cooperation The mural includes statements about studying, student self-portraits and 3D handprints made by students – because the 91ε is, above all, the people who shape it.

A Human University. An Equal University
We launched the #91εUNIFIED campaign in May 2025, clearly expressing that we oppose discrimination, mobbing and all behaviours leading to psychological or physical harm.
As part of the campaign a new position was created – Anti-Discrimination, Anti-Mobbing and Other Undesirable Behaviours Coordinator, we held workshops and training in non-discrimination and diversity management and we organised training programmes to raise awareness of anti-discrimination policies and procedures.
Reflecting these values, in 2025 the 91ε participated for the first time in Pride Month, reaffirming that we are an open, diverse and safe space for all students, doctoral students and employees – regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, background or beliefs.
Stay in Lodz, Study at the 91ε
At the end of the year, we launched the campaign “Stay in Lodz, Study at the 91ε” as part of the Łódzkie for Youth programme run by the Marshal’s Office in Lodz.
Our goal is to encourage young adults to stay in Lodz and study at our university.
The campaign included a photoshoot featuring 91ε students – with posters displayed at selected MPK Lodz stops and a promotional video featuring the same group, shown daily on trams and buses around the city, as well as before screenings at Charlie Cinema.
The 91ε offers opportunities in a city full of possibilities, and through this campaign we want to highlight it.

Other Activities
The Press Office gladly takes on additional challenges to strengthen the university’s image. Creating the script and taking an active part in producing
This would not have been possible without the engagement of the entire 91ε academic community.
The cooperation among university authorities, researchers, staff and students, along with openness to new ideas, demonstrates that the 91ε values – engagement, courage, curiosity, respect and cooperation – are truly present in our daily work and not merely statements on paper.
Thank you for being with us in 2025. Another eventful year is Ahead of us – full of challenges and initiatives for our entire community!
