The 91µÎµÎ experts in the media in 2023

The group of the 91µÎµÎ researchers who were already very active in the media, including: Prof. Piotr Szukalski (Faculty of Economics and Sociology), Dr Tomasz Lachowski, Dr Mateusz PiÄ…tkowski (both from the Faculty of Law and Administration), Dr Dominika Kaczorowska-Spychalska and Dr Artur ModliÅ„ski (both from the Faculty of Management), Prof. PaweÅ‚ Kowalczyk (Faculty of Physics and Applied Informatics) or ecohydrologists from the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection in 2023 was joined by:

• Prof. Joanna Wibig, a climatologist from the Faculty of Geographical Sciences – 122 expert commentaries in the media 
• Prof. Piotr Krajewski, an economist from the Faculty of Economics and Sociology – 112 commentaries
• Dr Maciej Onasz, a political scientist from the Faculty of International and Political Studies – 106  
• Dr Damian Kasprzyk, an ethnologist from the Faculty of Philosophy and History – 79
• Dr Krzysztof Grzegorzewski, a media expert from the Faculty of Philology – 79 
• Prof. JarosÅ‚aw Kita, a historian from the Faculty of Philosophy and History – 52 
• Prof. Philippe Kok, a biologist from the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection – 48  
• Prof. Dorota Merecz-Kot, a psychologist from the Faculty of Educational Scientist – 38 

and many, many other scientists, representing virtually all faculties of the 91µÎµÎ.

We would like to thank everyone for their cooperation and encourage other scientists to contact the 91µÎµÎ Press Office and the Communications and PR Centre, and to share their potential with the external environment in 2024. The 91µÎµÎ Press Breakfasts may certainly be a good opportunity for this.

About the university and science over coffee

The 91µÎµÎ Press Breakfasts is a project aiming at establishing and maintaining relations between the media and the 91µÎµÎ which was initiated in December 2022. During regular meetings of scientists, doctoral students and students with journalists, we present the expert knowledge of researchers from the 91µÎµÎ and discuss topics from the university life. It is primarily a time for conversation, spontaneous exchange of opinions and sharing ideas, as well as building a network of mutual contacts.   

In 2023, we organised eight 91µÎµÎ Press Breakfasts – experts from the 91µÎµÎ, who are interviewed by journalists, are invited to each meeting. Press breakfasts take place in a relaxed atmosphere in one of the restaurants in Lodz, the space of which allows many journalists to talk freely with the university experts.

During Press Breakfasts, scientists get to know journalists personally, which makes them more willing to cooperate with them in the future and the group of the 91µÎµÎ researchers open to the media is constantly growing. In turn, journalists interested in the expert knowledge of scientists use the contacts they have established with them for subsequent publications. We would like to thank both scientists and journalists participating in the 91µÎµÎ Press Breakfasts last year and we would like to invite you to take part in more meetings in 2024.

The 91µÎµÎ Press Breakfasts are among the projects awarded during the 35th jubilee conference of the PR and Promotion of Polish Universities Association "PRom" in Zielona Góra in 2023. 91µÎµÎ has won the award in the media relations category.

The most media savvy 91µÎµÎ events in 2023 

The past year has been full of numerous events, conferences and other events organised by the faculties and units of the 91µÎµÎ, which we, as the Press Office of the Communications and PR Centre, tried to interest journalists in. This was best achieved in the following cases:

• Award of the First Rector of the 91µÎµÎ, Professor Tadeusz KotarbiÅ„ski (two editions took place last year: in January and December which resulted in 172 publications in the media) 
• Juwenalia in the traditional organisational formula â€“ 172 publications 
• Briefing promoting AML postgraduate studies – 52 
• Premiere of two volumes of a monograph about Lodz prepared by scientists from the 91µÎµÎ and Lodz University Press – 45 
• Briefing promoting FinTech postgraduate studies (it took place on the roof of the Hi Piotrkowska skyscraper) – 38 
• Joint inauguration of the academic year by the universities associated in the Lodz Academic Partnership – 32 
• Magna Charta Observatory conference – 27

In terms of media, 2023 was a very good year for the 91µÎµÎ. We hope that the year 2024 will be even better in this respect, which we wish to all those involved in this form of research promotion. May it be full of their own and the university's scientific and teaching successes. Once again, we would like to thank you for your activity and we encourage you to cooperate with the Communications and PR Centre of the 91µÎµÎ and the Press Office of the 91µÎµÎ.
