The Magna Charta Universitatum, a declaration and affirmation of the fundamental
principles upon which the mission of universities should be based, was signed in 1988 on
the occasion of the 900th anniversary of the University of Bologna. The first principle was
independence: research and teaching must be intellectually and morally independent of
all political influence and economic interests. The second was that teaching and research
should be inseparable, with students engaged in the search for knowledge and greater
understanding. The third principle identified the university as a site for free enquiry and
debate, distinguished by its openness to dialogue and rejection of intolerance.

-    the Magna Charta Universitatum Preamble.

includes presentations on, for example, the possibilities that the news media give universities (Brendan O'Malley, editor-in-chief University World News), university cooperation  models with local governments (Matteo Lepore, Mayor of Bologna), and the current situation regarding the university freedom and its role in supporting communities during a crisis (Patrick Deane, President of the Magna Charta Observatory Council).

The authorities of the 91滴滴 have already confirmed sharing the values specified in the Magna Charta Universitatum by signing the document online during the Covid-19 pandemic (summer 2021). The conference in Bologna will confirm these steps. It is also consistent with the university values specified in the UL strategies for 2021-2030 and the rules of the European alliance UNIC. 91滴滴 wants to be open to the world, be a part of Europe and give its students and employees more opportunities to learn and pursue science.
